To join High Country, you need a legitimate PC copy of Red Dead Redemption 2, the RedM client and a Discord account, and you need to be 18 or over. You join the Black Dingo Discord, read the rules, apply for the whitelist, then connect in RedM. High Country is a serious 18+ Red Dead Redemption 2 roleplay server on RedM by Black Dingo Network, hosted in Sydney and Melbourne for Oceanic players. It is in development, so connect details go out on Discord at launch.
This guide covers each step in order: what you need, how the whitelist works, how to install RedM, and how to connect once the server opens.
What you need
- Age: 18 or over. All Black Dingo servers are 18+.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, fully updated. RedM only works with a legitimate copy. The Cfx.re documentation lists Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Rockstar Warehouse as places to buy it, and states that RedM will not work with pirated copies.
- A Windows PC that runs Red Dead Redemption 2.
- A Discord account. The whitelist, the rules and every announcement live on the Black Dingo Discord.
Step 1: Join the pack
Join the Black Dingo Discord at discord.gg/nCYx7YeVEV. High Country runs its whitelist, rules and announcements there. Everything else in this guide happens through the Discord, so start here.
Step 2: Read the rules
Know the territory before you ride into it. The rules are written down and public on the Discord, and staff come from the community. High Country is a serious roleplay server: outlaws, lawmen and the towns caught between them all play by the same written rules. If serious roleplay is new to you, read What is serious RP? first.
Step 3: Apply for the whitelist
High Country is whitelisted through Discord. Apply in the Discord once you have read the rules. The whitelist keeps the server serious and the community 18+. Whitelist news lands on the Discord first.
Step 4: Install RedM
RedM is the Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer platform High Country runs on. It is made by Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM.
- Make sure Red Dead Redemption 2 is installed and fully updated.
- Download RedM.exe from redm.net.
- Run RedM.exe and let it finish setting itself up.
If something goes wrong during install, the Cfx.re support site and documentation are linked from redm.net.
Step 5: Connect to High Country
High Country is in development. When it opens, the connect details go out on the Discord, with servers in Sydney and Melbourne. You will be able to find the server in the RedM server list at servers.redm.net, or use the connect details posted on the Discord.
Your whitelist has to be approved before you can get in.
Before launch: a checklist
You can do almost everything before the server opens, so launch day is only the connect step.
- Join the Black Dingo Discord.
- Read the High Country rules.
- Apply for the whitelist.
- Install and update Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, and run it once on its own.
- Install RedM and start it once, so it finishes setting up.
- Work out who your character is: a name, a reason to be out here and one thing they want.
RedM and FiveM
RedM and FiveM are both made by Cfx.re. FiveM is the platform for GTA V servers such as Known Associates; RedM is the platform for Red Dead Redemption 2 servers such as High Country. They are separate downloads for separate games, so having one installed does not install the other. If you plan to play both Black Dingo servers, set up each one with its own guide.
What to expect in the territory
High Country is serious roleplay on Red Dead Redemption 2: outlaws, lawmen and the towns caught between them, built by the Black Dingo team on custom infrastructure. The high country doesn't forgive. The server is built by game developers, not hobbyists, the rules are written down, and money never buys an advantage. Newcomers are welcome, and the Discord is the place to ask questions out of character.
Troubleshooting
- RedM will not start. Check that Windows and Red Dead Redemption 2 are fully updated, and that the game runs on its own first.
- You need more help with RedM. Cfx.re support is at support.cfx.re.
- You cannot find the server. High Country is in development. Connect details go out on the Discord at launch.
- You cannot get in after connecting. Check that your whitelist application has been approved on the Discord.
