How to join Known Associates

Updated

To join Known Associates, you need a legitimate PC copy of GTA V, the FiveM client and a Discord account, and you need to be 18 or over. You join the Black Dingo Discord, read the rules, apply for the whitelist, then connect in FiveM. Known Associates is a serious 18+ GTA V roleplay server on FiveM by Black Dingo Network, hosted in Sydney and Melbourne for Australian and Oceanic players. It is in development, so connect details go out on Discord at launch.

This guide covers each step in order: what you need before you start, how the whitelist works, how to install FiveM, and how to connect once the server opens.

What you need

  • Age: 18 or over. All Black Dingo servers are 18+.
  • GTA V on PC, fully updated. FiveM only works with a legitimate copy. The FiveM documentation lists Steam, the Epic Games Store, the Rockstar Warehouse, Amazon and the Xbox Store as places to buy it, and states that FiveM will not work with pirated copies.
  • A Windows PC. The FiveM documentation asks for a fully updated Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Windows 11, and about 105GB of storage for the game plus room for the FiveM cache.
  • A Discord account. The whitelist, the rules and every announcement live on the Black Dingo Discord.

Step 1: Join the pack

Join the Black Dingo Discord at discord.gg/nCYx7YeVEV. This is where Known Associates runs its whitelist, posts its rules and announces launch. If you only do one thing today, do this: everything else in this guide happens through the Discord.

Step 2: Read the rules

Know the city before you land in it. The rules are written down and public on the Discord, and staff come from the community. Known Associates is a serious roleplay server, so the rules matter: they set how characters, crews, businesses and the law interact. If serious roleplay is new to you, read our guide What is serious RP? first.

Step 3: Apply for the whitelist

Known Associates is whitelisted through Discord. Apply in the Discord once you have read the rules. The whitelist is how the server keeps the city serious and the community 18+. Watch the Discord for whitelist news: it opens there first.

Step 4: Install FiveM

FiveM is the multiplayer platform Known Associates runs on. These steps follow the official FiveM documentation.

  1. Make sure GTA V is installed and fully updated.
  2. Download FiveM from fivem.net.
  3. Run FiveM.exe. If you run it in an empty folder, FiveM installs there. Otherwise it installs in your Windows local app data folder.
  4. Start FiveM from your Windows Start menu.

FiveM finishes setting itself up on the first start. Leave it to complete before you try to connect anywhere.

Step 5: Connect to Known Associates

Known Associates is in development. When it opens, the connect details go out on the Discord, with servers in Sydney and Melbourne. There are two ways to connect in FiveM:

  • The server list. Find Known Associates in FiveM's server list and connect from there.
  • The console. Press F8 to open the FiveM console, then type connect followed by the address posted on the Discord. The FiveM documentation shows the format, for example connect cfx.re/join/ followed by a server code.

Whichever way you use, your whitelist has to be approved first.

Before launch: a checklist

You can do almost everything before the server opens, so launch day is only the connect step.

  1. Join the Black Dingo Discord.
  2. Read the Known Associates rules.
  3. Apply for the whitelist.
  4. Install and update GTA V on PC.
  5. Install FiveM and start it once, so it finishes setting up.
  6. Work out who your character is: a name, a reason to be in the city and one thing they want.

What to expect in the city

Known Associates is serious roleplay on GTA V: crews, businesses and the law that chases them, built by the Black Dingo team on custom infrastructure. It is a city that runs on a team you trust. The server is built by game developers, not hobbyists, the rules are written down, and money never buys an advantage. Newcomers are welcome, and the Discord is the place to ask questions out of character.

Troubleshooting

  • FiveM will not start. Check that Windows and GTA V are fully updated and that your PC meets the FiveM system requirements.
  • Your antivirus blocks FiveM. The FiveM documentation suggests submitting a support ticket to Cfx.re support.
  • You cannot find the server. Known Associates is in development. Connect details go out on the Discord at launch.
  • You cannot get in after connecting. Check that your whitelist application has been approved on the Discord.
